What is Combined Training? A Combined Training Competition is a kind of Combined Test Competition, comprising "two of the three tests of a horse trial", for which Combined Training uses Dressage and Show Jumping.

  • This competition is run under PCWA Eventing rules for Combined Training 2022.
  • The same horse and rider must complete both tests. Elimination from one test entails elimination from the competition. One combined dressage test and showjumping height per horse per day.
  • A maximum of 2 horses can be ridden in a day.
  • To ride in the PCWA classes, riders must be financial ordinary or associate members of an affiliated pony club and ride in their formal uniform including v-neck jumper, shirt and tie.

Open riders may ride in attire as outlined in the PCWA Gear Checking Manual.
  • Plaiting is preferred. (Compulsory for Day 3 Sunday, 10th June.)
  • Please present in formal riding attire to the presentations.

How is it Scored?

The total score is reached by adding together penalty marks incurred in each test. The winner is the competitor with the lowest total penalty marks. In the event of a draw, the rider combination with the best dressage score wins. If equality still exists, the closest to optimum time (under the time set) in the jumping test determines the result.

  • Jumping penalties are allocated as follows:
    - First disobedience: 4 penalties
    - Second disobedience in the whole test: 8 penalties
    - Third disobedience in the whole test: elimination
    - Knocking down an obstacle: 4 penalties
    - Disobedience plus knocking down an obstacle: 4 or 8 penalties (depending on the  number of the disobedience) plus time correction of 6 seconds
    - First fall of rider: elimination
    - First fall of horse: elimination
    - Error of course not rectified: elimination
    - Omission of an obstacle or boundary flag: elimination
    - Retaking an obstacle already jumped (excludes combination obstacles): elimination
    - Jumping obstacles in the wrong order: elimination
    - For every second or commenced period of a second in excess of time allowed: .4 penalty
    - Exceeding the time limit (which is twice the time allowed): elimination
