Gymkhana game events
Show riding events
Jumping gymkhana events
Riders will compete in their age groups but jump at their graded height only. Fences will be adjusted to the appropriate height for each individual rider depending on grading. Led/Assisted and Novice will have poles on the ground only and may have a shortened course.
Handy Hunter This event is judged over 4-5 fences only and will include two changes of direction as well as changes of gait and changes of pace within a gait. Horse should be well mannered, going forward kindly and coming back to the rider when asked. Combination may be asked to angle a fence or turn up to a fence on a short turn. Refusals and knockdowns are penalised as per Showjumping. At least one fence will be of a style one would meet out hunting ie: Brush fence, a skinny or gate. Objective of this class is to demonstrate a true relationship between the horse and rider over fences. The physical type of horse (size and build) has no bearing on the outcome. This is a performance class not a showing class.
Round the Ring Jumping This is a traditional NZ class which is used to demonstrate horse and rider style over fences. 4-5 fences only erected to be ridden at a consistent pace flowing one onto the next “around the ring”. Rider position over a fence, how the horse meets each fence, how the horse jumps each fence, the consistency of pace around the whole course is paramount. Refusals and knockdowns are penalised as per Showjumping rules.
Fancy Dress This will be judged at the end of the day within each age group.
